I believe that human beings, like all organisms, tend towards health. I view psychotherapy as collaboration between client and counselor to remove obstacles that block well-being and optimal growth. I have a deep respect for humanity and believe clients are ultimately the experts on their own lives. After spending time working in a psychiatric hospital, I have an appreciation for, and am comfortable working with the full range of human experience, including major mental illness.
I believe successful therapy includes the whole person—the mental, emotional, spiritual and physical parts of us. My background as a yoga teacher, and my trainings in Gestalt and Somatic therapies bring a focus to the present moment and the body in the therapy session. My practice is also grounded in techniques from the Cognitive Behavioral model, which give the client concrete and practical tools for change.
EXPERIENCE/TRAINING: I have been teaching yoga and exploring the connection between physical and emotional well-being, including trauma and mental illness for eight years. I have attended trainings and workshops in Mindfulness Practices, Gestalt Therapy, Harm Reduction Therapy and Sensory Modulation. I am currently a practicing intern at Wellspring Mental Health and Wellness Center, working towards my Master’s Degree and Licensure under the supervision of Maggie McGuire, PhD.
