EMBODYING THE HEART OF YOGA
A Body-Mind Centering Approach
Maggie McGuire, Ph.D.
Wednesdays 4-5:20 p.m. starting Sept 30, 2009
Embodied Yoga is a deep, internal study of the body-mind explored through movement and the direct experience of our own body systems, tissues and cells. Initiating asanas in this conscious, embodied way allows us to freely execute each posture as an expression of our present internal state of being. Centering our practice in an open heart, a quiet mind and a kind awareness enables us to release tension and emotional stress while strengthening the core of our being. We will focus on the dynamic balance of contents and container expressed by the skeletal and organ systems. As the bones provide the basic framework for the movement of our body and mind, and establish a sense of clarity, effortlessness and form, the organs provides us with a sense of personal self and organic authenticity. Organs are vital and alive and support our postural tone, our feelings, and give volume to our movement.
